Privacy Policy
This explains what information Betacode collects when you use this site, why we collect it, and what your rights are. It's written in plain English wherever the law lets us.
Who we are
Betacode is a one-person web design studio based in Manchester, run by Eriq. For the purposes of UK data protection law, Betacode is the "controller" of the personal information described on this page: the business that decides how and why it's used.
You can reach us any time at hello@betacode.co.uk.
Information we collect, and why
Demo request form. When you fill in the form on our contact page to ask for a free demo, we collect:
- Business name
- Industry (Trades / Dental practice / Estate or letting agent / Other)
- Postcode or area
- Current website (optional)
- Your name
- Phone
- Preferred contact method (Phone / Email / WhatsApp)
- "Anything else?" (optional free text)
We use this to build your free demo, get in touch about it, and, if you decide to go ahead, provide the web design and care-plan services described on this site. If you don't go ahead, we hold onto it only long enough to answer any follow-up, then delete it (see "How long we keep your information" below).
When you submit the form we also automatically record your IP address and browser user agent. We use these to run an invisible spam check (Cloudflare Turnstile, see below) and to limit how often the form can be submitted from the same address (a maximum of 5 submissions per hour), so it can't be flooded by bots. Both are stored alongside your enquiry.
Server and hosting logs. Like effectively every website, ours generates standard server logs as part of being hosted: things like your IP address, the pages you request and when. This happens automatically for every visitor, isn't something we can switch off, and is a normal part of running a website securely.
Analytics. Only if you actively accept it in our cookie banner, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. See "Cookies and analytics" below for exactly how that works and how to change your mind.
The legal basis for using it
- Responding to your demo request and providing services you've asked for: because it's necessary to take steps at your request before entering into a contract, and to perform that contract if you become a client.
- Spam prevention and rate limiting: our legitimate interest in keeping the form working properly and free from automated abuse.
- Server and hosting logs: our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and running.
- Analytics: your consent, given (or withdrawn) through the cookie banner. Nothing analytics-related happens before you accept it.
Who we share your information with
We use a small number of outside services to run this site and the demo request form:
- Cloudflare Turnstile (spam protection): checks that a form submission is coming from a real person, not a bot. It may process your IP address and browser signals to make that judgement. See Cloudflare's Turnstile privacy policy.
- Supabase (database hosting): stores the information you submit through the demo request form. We ask for a UK or EU hosting region when setting up our database, but we can't confirm the exact region from this site's code alone; if you'd like to know it, ask us and we'll check.
- Resend (email delivery): sends us an email notification whenever someone submits the form, including everything you entered, so we know to get in touch.
- Vercel (hosting and content delivery): hosts this site and runs the code behind the demo request form. It's the source of the server logs described above.
- Google Analytics (only with your consent): if you accept the "Analytics" category in our cookie banner, Google Analytics helps us understand how visitors use the site, for example which pages are popular. See Google's Privacy Policy and "Cookies and analytics" below for how consent controls this.
We don't sell your information to anyone.
Cookies and analytics
Every page has a cookie banner and a permanent "Cookie settings" button in the bottom-left corner, so you can change your choice at any time. There are two categories:
- Strictly necessary: remembers the choice you make in the cookie banner. Always on, and can't be switched off, because the site couldn't otherwise respect your preference.
- Analytics: only active if you accept it. Powers Google Analytics, described above.
We use Google's Consent Mode v2 to enforce this: every consent signal (including analytics and any advertising-related storage) defaults to denied the moment the page loads, before Google Analytics can store anything. Only if you accept the "Analytics" category is analytics storage switched to granted. We don't run ads or remarketing on this site, so advertising-related consent stays denied regardless of your choice.
The typefaces on this site are hosted by us, not loaded from Google Fonts or any other third party, so simply reading a page doesn't send any font-related requests off-site.
International transfers
Some of the providers listed above (Cloudflare, Resend, Vercel and Google, and potentially Supabase depending on the region its database runs in) may process information outside the UK and European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards built into their services, such as UK International Data Transfer Agreements, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or a UK adequacy decision, depending on the provider and destination. Email us if you'd like more detail on a specific provider's safeguards.
How long we keep your information
We keep demo request submissions for as long as we need them to respond to your enquiry and, if you become a client, to deliver our services. We review stored leads periodically and delete ones we no longer have a reason to keep. If you'd like your information deleted sooner, email us and we'll action it.
We don't control how long Google keeps analytics data; that's governed by our Google Analytics account settings and Google's own privacy policy.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct anything that's inaccurate or incomplete.
- Erase your information (the "right to be forgotten").
- Restrict how we use your information.
- Receive a copy of your information in a portable format.
- Object to processing based on our legitimate interests.
- Withdraw consent for analytics at any time, using the "Cookie settings" button, with no effect on anything done before you withdrew it.
To use any of these rights, email hello@betacode.co.uk. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), at ico.org.uk.
Automated decisions and children's data
We don't use your information to make any automated decisions that have a legal or similarly significant effect on you; every demo request is read and actioned by a person.
This site isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
